Sweeping Joy

Cindy Tonkin - August 8, 2019

Continuing my chairs series, this one is over the top of a collage which includes parts of “Europe since Napoleon”, some National Geographic photos,  some tissue paper and many layers of glazes.

I added a layer of Ironlak marker with chairs, which cease to look like chairs when shaded in.

Here are pix of what the piece looked like before and after I added the chairs.

It’s a work on paper, it’s about 60 x 180cm (i haven’t measured it properly).

I have called it sweeping joy because there’s a lot of movement in there. I’ve been reading about the aesthetics of joy in Joyful recently, and sweeping gestures kind of work with that.
