Make graceful and lasting change

Premium White

Cindy Tonkin - August 3, 2018

This is the third book like this that I have made (the previous ones are Poster and Sky Dreams).

This one has words carved out of a concertina, but this time I erased the pencil marks, rather than making the words a feature. The words are the key words from the poem Bellbirds by Henry Kendall, which I have used before (here, here, here, here)

It’s a double concertina.

I had some problems with finger marks and pva (i’m always messy). I’ve been trying to consider all of my work as if it’s a maquette – which means the 2nd version of it can deal with the perfection issues.

The tabbing to connect the top and bottom concertina takes an age (maybe 5 hours?). The cover comes from another calendar, this one advertising Premium White. The embossing and the gilt decorations make the spine for this work. All of the concertina inside are in white embossed 250gsm.

I’ve been in Bowral for 2 weeks making art, and it has been splendid. Tomorrow begins my return to civilisation.
