Jonathan Jones’ exhibition at the Art Space in Woolloomoloo.
Lovely ideas. Felt a little like someone’s PhD thesis, lots of examples of pretty much the same thing – embroideries of the plants taken from Australia by a French expedition, now held in a museum in Paris. each one was lovely – machine stitched “stamps”, hand stitched plants. Apparently the embroidery workshops included education for the embroiders on how the plants are used in the indigenous world, so no doubt a great social outcome, but not an art exhibition as such.
Also a few wall pieces with surrounding halos made of Australian materials (possum fur, everlasting daisies, etc). The eggs were beautifully done too. Cathie loved it. I was a little in need of more stimulation!
