Van Gogh to Botticelli

Cindy Tonkin - April 23, 2021

Today we visited the Van Gogh to Botticelli exhibition at the National Gallery in Canberra.
it was really a kind of greatests hits across the ages: there was a lovely sunflowers/Van Gogh, a single Renoir, a Rembrandt self-portrait at 34.
The gallery was packed with people.
I photographed the ones I liked which i mostly hadn’t seen before.
We also looked in on “Know my Name (pt 2)” which was a retrospective of Australian Women artists.
Saw a great GW Bot which was a lino cut that looked like silk. Didn’t take a pic of that.
I really wanted to buy an orange / navy scarf which was blue poles, but didn’t, firstly because there was no price, and it was pure silk, and secondly because there is an element of pretention about wearing a blue poles scarf.
I did get the idea of making something similar, and / or of looking around for a way to get my designs onto canvas bags, because they were horrifically expensive at $44, and because I think it is a nice way to display art. maybe Inspire, the one everyone wanted at newtown all those years ago.
