National Gallery 0526

Cindy Tonkin - June 3, 2026

Popped into the National Gallery because I was in Queanbeyan for work.

What a lovely way to spend an hour or so!

I had only recently been there at Easter, so I went to see some different collections.

Guilio Paolini’s Aria is lovely, it’s part of the Blueprint for a Temple exhibition. I’ve been noticing videos on Instagram about how to make cyanotypes, so I may get into that sometime soon.

I loved the Cafe Australia Chair, and maybe one day I can convert a stool or two to look a little like it?

Khai Liew It was born like this is just so beautiful – it’s big and so smooth. The Coffee pot is Dan’s favourite thing – want to see if i can make a version of it for him? It won’t be food safe, but the form is lovely.

Hong Hao’s My things No 5. reminds me of Sandra Winkworth’s work, when she was drawing everything in her house (she began with her mantelpiece).

The sunset was brilliant, so there’s a few pix of that, and the hotel at Queanbeyan had a 2019 White Pages – I haven’t seen one for many years. And the Byrne’s Mill building, now a cafe, in Queanbeyan just pleased me so much.

Here are the pictures.
