I love Ukelele Death Squad’s Fuck the Man. I original saw them support the Longest Johns in 2025. I loved their set more than the LJ (sorry, that seems like sacrilege in a Shanty Environment!).
A few weeks ago I taught it at Shanties, because we will be supporting them at the Metro Theatre in a few weeks. Turns out we’ll be singing Fuck the Man with them on stage (they do call it their “Shanty”).
For Shanties at Redfern though the chorus is too long (two sets of “tomorrow he might change”), and so is the verse. So I split it up so it has a shorter chorus more frequently, and then I added some verses that were more important to me than people shitting the bed and such. Here are my additional verses.
Tomorrow he might change, no!
Give up his sordid ways, oh no!
Tomorrow he might change!
Oh no, no way!
(original verse 1) Fuck the man who cheats his wife
Has his fun in the middle of the night
Goes and lives his sordid life
Fuck the man who cheats his wife
Tomorrow he might change, no!
Give up his sordid ways, oh no!
Tomorrow he might change!
Oh no, no way!
(CT verses from here) Fuck the cyclists on the path
Riding slow or riding fast
Knock you over with no heart
Fuck the cyclists on the path
Tomorrow he might change, no!
Give up his sordid ways, oh no!
Tomorrow he might change!
Oh no, no way!
Fuck the people walking slow
Four abreast and doh si do
Can’t get past them no no no
Fuck the people walking slow
Tomorrow he might change, no!
Give up his sordid ways, oh no!
Tomorrow he might change!
Oh no, no way!
Fuck the ones with no headphones
Listen to their daily drones
Can I talk to your mummy too
Fuck the ones with no headphones
Tomorrow he might change, no!
Give up his sordid ways, oh no!
Tomorrow he might change!
Oh no, no way!
Fuck the boss who works you late
Gives you work till half past eight
While they dine and talk with friends
Fuck the boss who works you late
Tomorrow he might change, no!
Give up his sordid ways, oh no!
Tomorrow he might change!
Oh no, no way!
