Leaves in the Park

Cindy Tonkin - November 11, 2025

I have discovered i get free audiobooks with my premium Spotify subscription, and this week I heard about Introducing Mrs Collins, a Pride and Prejudice sequel, centring on Charlotte Lucas. I am really enjoynig it.

Yesterday I took lunch in Hyde Park in the sun (it was cold-ish early Spring weather). While listening to the audio book my eyes and hands can roam, and a leaf on the grass caught my eye – and I folded it into a box and pinned it with its own stalk (thinking Andy Goldsworthy as I did it). Then I did 3 more.

Here they are. I did have visions of making lots of them, but I could only get to 4 leaves worth without wandering around, and it was very pleasant to be seated!

Let’s call it a first draft of a larger work?

I photographed them alone, embedded in a leaf. I fought the urge to discard one, because I know my work looks better in 3s. Before I left I squashed them, but this gave them a flower-like feel and may have made them more interesting.
