If you like my poems

Cindy Tonkin - June 5, 2026

I have used the e.e. cummings poem several times before, but this one seemed especially apt. (See e.e. cummings theme).

It all began because I’d folded a concertina out of calendar pages with beautiful ivory engravings and little cut outs. I found it in my “books to finish” pile, and launched in.

The drawings came from the book Fashion, which i plundered for the Dresses series (and still have so many images left!). They are lovely little line drawings, maybe from Dior, maybe from another designer of a similar era.

I echoed the punctured spine on each of the flag pages, either as a cricut cut, or when I got impatient as a cricut drawing of the same bubbly element.

I had of course neglected to think about the cover, so took some old Nicola offcuts, but they didn’t match, so out with the indigo coloured Gansai Tambi watercolours (i love those colours, straight out of the palette).

I might do it differently if I planned it, and maybe one day I will, but its purpose was to sweep me back into making something after a hiatus (because I was sewing? becuase I was ill? because I had a job for a while, who can say).

Anyway, e.e. cummings gets another look in, and I do like the output.
