These negative-space pieces from 27 dresses were too good to waste.
so here’s a tiny flag book of them. probably about 8 x 4cm. Covers are from an image from Fashion, which I’ve been raiding for the dresses series (collage underlay on Wardrobe for example)
i backed them with pattern tissue, and that’s where the magic happens: the light through the tissue is just lovely. It’s my intentino to make another version of them (or at least the negative space concept), perhaps larger, perhaps just a book with pages, perhaps even an altered book with cut outs and tissue on the back? say 3 – 5 pages stuck together, dress cut out, pattern paper on? I have so many beautiful hard cover books (and altered books are very easy to store on a bookshelf! and all of the materials.
I realise i have not bought many art materials for years now – kmart sharpies and paint markers, posca markers last year. All of the papers I’m using i have had for years – there are still blank sheets in a stash under my bed, still calendars. I could probably make for another 20 years with what I have, just replenishing glue, really!
