Night Circus Chairs

Cindy Tonkin - July 26, 2019

This is called night circuses because I overlaid a chairs piece I’ve never been happy with which was called Night Circus.

It had a lot of magenta in it (partly because I had a lot of magenta paint left over and I wanted to use it up!).

The original piece is the one with the simplistic person in it below.

The new piece is turned 90 degrees and overlaid with turquoise. I used my 3 favourite Ironlak markers (orange, turquoise, purple) which just keep on keeping on. the orange sits flatter than I would like, but the turquoise just pops beautifully.

The original piece was called Night Circus because i read the book Night circus which described wonderful images. I haven’t yet followed through on representing what I saw described in the book, except for this piece.

The new piece adds to my corpus of “chairs” pieces.

It’s acrylic and collage and sharpie and crayon on canvas, measures 1m x 1m
