Make graceful and lasting change

New York Collages

Cindy Tonkin - April 14, 2025

Nicola gave me this book a few months ago. The artist, Marco Luccio is a Sydney Artists, and he did some lovely work altering new york postcards. Nicola received it for free with a print she bought.

The book was lovely, and his work was lovely, and I didn’t need to keep it. So I have altered it.

It measures about 20 x 15 cm, maybe 1 cm thick.

The interiors started with a layer of images from the DK guide to New York (just cutting out all of the postage stamp sized images took forever! I prefer to tear!

I’ve added a layer of pattern paper, some (Gensai Tambi) watercolour, and some torn pieces of the original book. Then I added some crayon, and finally, at Nicola’s suggestion, a single line that goes from beginning to end. It’s a golden line.

Words from New York, New York (it’s a wonderful town) from On the Town

Here is my video of the inside of the book

I did make a video of what the book looked like before I altered it, but I cannot find it in all the videos I’ve made in the past few months (I’m writing this up in May, but I made it March or maybe earlier).

Here are some images from inside (the video isn’t high enough resolution to see it).
