Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves (in polish)

Cindy Tonkin - June 20, 2016

This is Ola from Poland, singing the Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves for the warm up I describe below.

How it works: everyone in the circle sings this song (you could sing the same tune but sing the words “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves” if you like).
There is an engine for the warm up.
The engine does an action for the length of the refrain (punches the air).
the second person picks up the action (punches the air) for the second refrain, while the engine chooses a new action (blow kisses).
At the third refrain the third person punches the air, while the second person blows kisses, and the engine turns in a circle.
Fourth… you get it.
So players are doing an action and monitoring an action at the same time.
It keeps going round the circle till you change engines or you decide the warm up is over.
Variations I thought of:

  • 1 engine going the same way round the circle (for a larger group)
  • 2 engines going different ways (have to try that!)
  • several engines in a large group (when it gets to the engine they need to just do what the person before them did – it goes all chinese whispers anyway!)
