This is a series of 8 small zines I made for my Sydney BAG friends – we’ve been hanging out together monthly for more than 15 years, and every christmas we give each other a small something.
This year, mine was a green booklet, cut on the cricket, with tiny windows which showed old masters cropped a little.
started out with a front page template heading thing made on cricut, but in the end written – how a series changes as time runs out – i was 15 minutes late for our meeting because I basically hadn’t finished these!!
the quote is one I’ve known for a while and seen around – Marcel Proust’s one, which in English is
The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” Marcel Proust.
But i thought i’d check what the original in French said, and it is kinda different:
in French:
Le véritable voyage de découverte ne consiste pas à chercher de nouveaux paysages, mais à avoir de nouveaux yeux, de voir l’univers avec les yeux d’un autre, de cent autres, de voir les cent univers que chacun d’eux voit, que chacun d’eux est.

in English:
The only true voyage of discovery, would be not to visit strange lands but to possess other eyes, to behold the universe through the eyes of another, of a hundred others, to behold the hundred universes that each of them beholds, that each of them is;
The French version said so much more than the hackneyed one I’d seen around said so i included both (untranslated from French, because Bernard and I speak French, and it seemed pedestrian (plus I was running out of time).
I made a series of 8. I lost one when I filmed the you tube below, but found it again, hence a shorter 2nd video.
In the end I needed 7, so go figure!
